Check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

- "Do I have mental health insurance benefits?"

- "How many sessions/year or per episode does my insurance cover?"

- "What is my deductible and has it been met?"

- "Do I have a co-pay  or co-insurance and if so, what is that amount?"

- "Is prior-authorization required for services?"

- "When does my insurance roll-over, when does my deductible start over?"

Couples:  To inquire about Couples/Family counseling with your insurance carrier ask:

"Is 90847 covered under my benefit plan, with me as the primary patient?"

Good Faith Estimate notice

Under the “no surprises act,” health care providers must provide un-insured or self-pay patients, upon request, a “Good Faith Estimate” of the total expected charges for non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You may ask your provider for this estimate before you schedule a service and have the right to file a dispute of charges if you receive a bill $400+ above the estimate, so long as the dispute is filed within 120 days of the disputed invoice. Make sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, talk with your counselor and/or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
